Broadridge Financial Solutions has shared data on the use of its Distributed Ledger Repo (DLR) platform to execute and settle repurchase agreement (repo) transactions. In October 2026, $7.6 trillion in repo transactions were executed using the platform. This represents an average daily volume of $345 billion.

Temporary Sale of Securities

Repo transactions involve the temporary sale of securities with an agreement to repurchase them at a specified price. In practice, repos are a form of short-term borrowing, with the securities serving as collateral. They’re commonly used by financial institutions to raise cash and manage their funding needs.

Broadridge’s DLR platform uses a distributed ledger to execute and settle repo transactions. The company has also recently unveiled a new platform called DLX that can be used to issue, trade, settle, custody, and service tokenized assets throughout their lifecycles.

Broadridge global head of digital innovation Horacio Barakat noted that earlier implementations of blockchain in financial services focused on individual use cases, but now, for tokenized assets to be adopted by banks, broker-dealers, and asset managers, it’s important to think about how they can be implemented within existing workflows and infrastructure. Barakat expects to see more institutions do this in 2027.

What the Data Does and Doesn't Show

It’s worth noting that the $7.6 trillion in repo transactions executed in October is the total notional value of repo transactions during the month. Repo transactions are constantly churning, with new transactions being executed to replace expiring ones.

This data therefore gives a sense of the level of activity in the securities financing market using Broadridge’s DLR platform but doesn’t provide insights into crypto market activity or investor appetite for Bitcoin and Ether.

It also doesn’t provide insights into the amount of new capital flowing into crypto.

To understand the extent to which Broadridge’s DLR platform provides benefits around faster transfer of collateral and settlement, it would be helpful to have data around settlement times and the flow of collateral. Nevertheless, the data does give a sense of the level of securities financing activity using the platform.
