Bitcoin Cash price data is being assessed alongside a new protocol proposal that could give the network a path toward post-quantum and hybrid signatures. CHIP-2026-06 remains under review and is not an activated consensus change.

Proposal Targets Signature Flexibility

In a report dated November 5, The Quantum Insider described CHIP-2026-06 as a Cash Improvement Proposal introducing the OP_SIGHASH opcode. The opcode would expose the transaction signature hash already calculated during verification, allowing contracts to work with alternative signature schemes without reconstructing the calculation manually.

The proposal also describes a signature-dispatch mechanism. Existing secp256k1-based ECDSA and Schnorr signatures could coexist with post-quantum schemes, while hybrid keys would require both classical and post-quantum checks to succeed. The stated design goal is to support migration without requiring new output types for the hybrid scheme and to preserve compatibility with existing address formats and wallet tooling.

Review Comes Before Any Upgrade

Bitcoin Cash Node developers have opened a merge request implementing the proposed opcode, according to The Quantum Insider. However, implementation work does not mean that the rule is active on the mainnet. The proposal remains open for technical review, stakeholder feedback and refinement.

The report identifies November 15, 2026, as a potential lock-in date and May 15, 2027, as the targeted activation date. Both milestones depend on the established review and approval process. For investors and users, the relevant distinction is therefore between a development proposal and a deployed network feature.

Market Context Remains Volatile

Investing.com listed BCH at USD 289.12 in the checked BCH/USD market data and displayed a 1.53 percent change. The same page showed a 24-hour volume of USD 245.85 million, a market capitalization of USD 5.83 billion and a circulating supply of 20.11 million BCH. Those figures describe the market snapshot and do not establish that the protocol proposal caused the displayed move.

The Bitcoin Cash price remains exposed to broad crypto-market volatility while the proposal is being evaluated. The potential quantum-security work may be relevant to the network's long-term technical architecture, but its investment significance will depend on review outcomes, implementation and eventual activation rather than on the announcement alone.
