Bitcoin Cash price developments are being shaped by protocol work rather than a completed network upgrade. Developers are reviewing CHIP-2026-06, a proposal that would make it easier to use post-quantum and hybrid signatures in Bitcoin Cash transactions. The proposal is not yet an activated consensus rule.
Proposal targets signature flexibility
According to The Quantum Insider, CHIP-2026-06 introduces an OP_SIGHASH opcode that exposes the transaction hash already calculated during signature verification. The design is intended to support alternative schemes, including post-quantum algorithms, without requiring contracts to reconstruct the hash manually.
Hybrid keys would require both a conventional and a post-quantum signature to validate a transaction. The proposal is therefore positioned as a migration path, rather than an immediate replacement for the secp256k1 signatures used in ordinary BCH transactions. The report says the proposal could reach a lock-in decision on November 15, 2026, while mainnet activation is targeted for May 15, 2027. Both dates remain subject to the review process.
Market access has expanded
Bitcoin Cash also received a new institutional market venue in October. CME Group said on October 20 that FalconX and GSR had executed the first block trade in its new Bitcoin Cash futures. The contracts give market participants another instrument for hedging and gaining exposure, but the announcement does not establish a direct effect on the spot price.
Price and investor context
The Investing.com Bitcoin Cash page read for this report listed the Bitcoin Cash price at 266.23 USD. It showed a 24-hour volume of 213.50 million USD and a market capitalization of 5.34 billion USD. The displayed 52-week range was 181.10 to 668.87 USD. Investing.com also showed 20.11 million BCH in circulation against a maximum supply of 21.00 million BCH.
For investors, the key distinction is between a proposal and a deployed feature. Further review, implementation work and any later activation would be needed before the post-quantum design could be assessed as a live network capability. The existing project description at bch.info presents Bitcoin Cash as a peer-to-peer payment network, while the new proposal addresses longer-term signature infrastructure.
