Key takeaways
- Bitcoin rebounds above $78,000 following US midterm elections
- Spot Bitcoin ETFs lose $1.16 billion across three sessions
- BTC faces $80,000 resistance before targeting $82,000
BTC climbed approximately 0.7% to $78,354 after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress. The recovery followed a six-week price low and renewed concerns about the outlook for crypto-friendly legislation.
However, Bitcoin's rebound comes despite persistent institutional selling, raising questions about whether the post-election recovery can extend toward $82,000.
Bitcoin Recovers as Election Uncertainty Fades
Bitcoin initially declined as election results pointed toward stronger Democratic control of Congress, potentially complicating the passage of cryptocurrency market-structure legislation.
But the selling quickly reversed as market participants gained greater clarity about Washington's political direction.
The recovery coincided with increased derivatives activity.
According to Paradigm, approximately $660 million in Bitcoin options block trades occurred on election day, more than double the previous session's volume.
Traders purchased roughly $420 million in call options while selling approximately $105 million, indicating substantial upside positioning, although some activity may have involved hedging.
The rebound also contrasts with the late-October selloff, when Bitcoin struggled to defend $77,000 following heavy ETF withdrawals.
Bitcoin ETFs Lose $1.16 Billion Despite Price Recovery
Institutional demand remains the biggest challenge facing Bitcoin's recovery.
According to Farside Investors, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $643.2 million in outflows on October 30, followed by $398.6 million on November 2 and $115.6 million on November 3.
Combined withdrawals reached approximately $1.16 billion over three trading sessions.
BlackRock's IBIT accounted for $95 million in Tuesday's outflows, although that was considerably lower than Monday's $405.3 million.
The slowdown may indicate easing redemption pressure, but it does not establish that institutions have resumed accumulating Bitcoin.
Previous ETF outflow episodes demonstrated that BTC can temporarily recover while institutional fund flows remain negative.
Bitcoin Price Prediction: Can BTC Reach $82,000?
Bitcoin's immediate challenge is establishing support above $78,000 before attempting to reclaim the psychological $80,000 threshold.
A sustained breakout above $80,000 could bring the 30-day moving average near $81,319 into focus, followed by the $82,000 region identified by 10x Research founder Markus Thielen.
That recovery would also return Bitcoin toward the lower boundary of an earlier $80,000–$82,000 buying zone identified by QCP Capital.
However, failure to maintain $78,000 could expose $76,000, followed by support near $75,000 and the 200-day moving average around $73,200.
Higher Treasury yields and renewed technology-stock weakness could complicate the recovery.
