- Mike McGlone warns that Bitcoin, copper, and silver signal a wider market downturn.
- Silver has lost roughly 30% in 2026 after surging 60% in the first quarter.
- McGlone identifies copper and corn as commodities facing further downside pressure.
Mike McGlone, a senior commodity strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, believes Bitcoin, copper, silver, and other commodities are signaling a global market downturn.
He says several assets are following the same pump-and-dump pattern, with prices surging before suffering sharp declines. According to McGlone, this trend will continue through the end of 2026.
Bitcoin Leads the Decline
McGlone views Bitcoin as an early warning sign for other risky investments. He points out that Bitcoin has struggled to remain in positive territory in 2026.
He believes this signals the end of a major period of wealth creation and inflation-driven growth. He also expects copper to face similar selling pressure.
McGlone highlighted the close relationship between copper and the S&P 500 in 2026, noting that both have recorded nearly identical price movements.
Since copper is closely linked to economic activity, its decline points to broader economic weakness.
In simple terms, McGlone sees Bitcoin’s struggles as an early warning that other markets, including stocks and commodities, are heading toward a larger downturn.

Silver’s Big Rally Turns Into a Sharp Decline
Silver provides another example of the market reversal McGlone has highlighted. In his November 4 analysis, he explained that silver surged 60% in the first quarter of 2026 before surrendering much of those gains. By November 3, the metal had fallen 30% for the year, returning to price levels last seen in 1980.
McGlone says the same pattern of sharp rallies followed by steep declines is playing out across several markets, including gold, platinum, palladium, natural gas, nickel, lead, iron ore, and Bitcoin.
Although WTI crude oil ended October above $100 per barrel for the first time since 2008, several other commodities have struggled. Copper, grains, and natural gas remain among the weakest markets.
Copper and Corn Face Further Declines
McGlone believes the commodity sell-off has further room to run. He identifies copper and corn as two assets facing additional downside pressure.
Copper is particularly important because its price closely tracks economic activity and stock market performance. Its recent movements also mirror the sharp rallies and reversals seen in silver and other commodities.
He warns that continued weakness in U.S. stocks will spread selling pressure to other markets, including commodities and agricultural products.
What This Means for Bitcoin and Crypto
McGlone’s warning suggests that Bitcoin’s poor performance in 2026 aligns with a broader market problem than an isolated cryptocurrency downturn. He believes Bitcoin, precious metals, and other risky investments are facing pressure from the same unfavorable market conditions.
Copper and the S&P 500 remain two critical indicators to watch because their performance will help reveal the extent of the broader market weakness. The central concern is that the era of strong growth, inflation-driven expansion, and rising asset prices is coming to an end.
McGlone expects copper and the U.S. stock market to play a crucial role in determining the scale of the downturn, with continued weakness threatening to trigger a much broader sell-off across financial markets.
