Bitcoin fell to $76,000 on Thursday as a broad post-election selloff swept through U.S. markets, dragging down equities and briefly lifting then reversing safe-haven commodities.

The Nasdaq 100 led the decline with a 5% drop, while the Nasdaq lost close to 4% and the S&P 500 shed 2.2%. Bitcoin's slide tracked the equity rout rather than decoupling from it, undercutting the argument that the token offers a hedge during risk-off episodes.

Chipmakers bore the brunt of the selling. Investors moved quickly out of technology names on concern that Democratic control of both chambers of Congress could translate into tighter oversight of the artificial intelligence industry.

Gold, which initially rose to $4,116 an ounce on safe-haven demand, gave back part of the advance and slipped below $4,100. Silver also retreated, trading under $52 an ounce.

Crypto-linked equities absorbed heavy losses:

Firms shifting from Bitcoin mining into AI data centers were hit harder, with double-digit declines across the group.

Note: The 13%-15% range applies to Cipher Mining, IREN, Bitdeer, TeraWulf and CleanSpark as a group.

The simultaneous retreat in Bitcoin, technology stocks and precious metals marked a day in which few corners of the market escaped selling pressure, leaving the near-term outlook for both the AI and digital-asset sectors clouded by regulatory uncertainty.
