BitMart has suffered another security breach involving a small amount, founder Sheldon Xia confirmed in a public statement.

The incident follows internal restructuring that left the cryptocurrency exchange operating with only a core team.

“The amount involved was small,” said BitMart founder Sheldon Xia.

Xia attributed staff departures to user threats, doxxing and retaliation involving disgruntled former employees.

The founder said retaining technical personnel required individual discussions to maintain the exchange's core systems.

“Our security team is currently severely understaffed,” Xia said, while describing continued efforts to protect customer data and assets.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attackers may belong to the same group behind Mercado Bitcoin's recent breach in Brazil.

The incident exposes continuing security risks at BitMart as workforce reductions strain its ability to defend digital assets.
