Democrats are projected to retake the House, giving the incoming House Oversight Committee a path to investigate President Donald Trump’s family crypto ventures when the new Congress convenes Jan. 3, 2027.
Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia, who is expected to lead the committee, said Trump family crypto ventures would be one focus of a broader inquiry into what he described as corruption by the family. He told potential subjects, “Lawyer up.”
Other targets Garcia outlined include immigration enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security, corporate corruption and the Epstein files. A House majority gives Democrats control of committee leadership and the ability to hold hearings and issue subpoenas.
The House has 435 seats, with 218 needed for a majority. Democratic lawmakers also raised concerns about the Trump family’s crypto interests during debate over the CLARITY Act, a crypto market-structure bill that failed a Senate procedural vote, 49-50, in September. Committee control is expected to change when the next Congress begins Jan. 3, 2027.
