Democrats held an early advantage in called U.S. midterm races for both chambers of Congress, but the partial count had not established which party would control either chamber.
Voters are choosing all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats. Early counts in Republican-held contests in Ohio, South Carolina and Texas showed Democrats ahead, while voting or ballot counting continued in western states. Many key battleground results were still pending, and the overall contest could take days or longer to resolve.
Control of Congress matters to the direction of crypto legislation. The GENIUS Act has advanced a stablecoin framework, while the CLARITY Act, a crypto market-structure bill, has failed a Senate procedural vote. The early election results have not resolved the bill’s future.
Vote counting continues as western polling places remain open or ballots are tallied.
