Democrats were projected to hold 54 Senate seats after the midterm elections, securing control of the chamber as two state races remained unprojected in the latest tally.

The update at 4 p.m. ET Thursday, Nov. 5, put Republicans at 44 seats. Alaska and Mississippi were still unprojected, leaving 98 projected seats in the two-party tally; the figures were not certified totals. The latest projection was higher than the 51-seat Democratic figure and 40-seat Republican figure in the initial tally.

Democratic control of the Senate had been called at 11:36 p.m. ET Tuesday, Nov. 3. The updated count followed earlier coverage of Democratic Senate gains.

Bitcoin (BTC) also recorded a high of $81,200 on Wednesday, Nov. 4, after moving above $81,000. That price move appeared in earlier market coverage. The Senate projection and Bitcoin high were separate developments during the same stretch of election coverage.
