On November 7, the Justice Department said a federal court in Virginia accepted a guilty plea from former FBI agent Patrick Steven Yaroch, who was charged with wire fraud and money laundering.
Yaroch is accused of using access credentials for crypto wallets obtained during an FBI investigation to make about 100 unauthorized transfers totaling $2,474,380 in cryptocurrency starting in December 2024.
He also exchanged the stolen crypto for other digital assets and moved the funds through multiple accounts to conceal their origin. Investigators found that some of the money was used to pay personal debts, including credit-card bills and car loan installments.
Yaroch is scheduled to be sentenced on March 4, 2027, and could face up to 20 years in prison.
