Kazakhstan has reportedly invested $100 million in crypto funds, with Brevan Howard Digital named as one of the recipients, according to a post circulating on X.
Searches of news coverage, fund databases and regulatory disclosures have not turned up an official announcement tying the Kazakh government to Brevan Howard Digital. The same goes for statements from the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) and the state-linked Alem Crypto Fund.
What is actually on the record
The $100 million figure and the Brevan Howard Digital connection come from the social media claim alone. Neither the NBK nor the Alem Crypto Fund has publicly confirmed it.
What is documented is that Kazakhstan has been building crypto exposure on its own timetable. The country launched the Alem Crypto Fund in September 2025, with a mandate centered on long-term investment and building strategic reserves in digital assets.
That fund reportedly kicked off by acquiring BNB tokens through a partnership with Binance Kazakhstan.
Separately, the NBK has been weighing a larger allocation. The central bank is looking at putting up to $350 million from reserve funds into crypto-related instruments, with the planned range cited at $300 to $350 million.
The NBK has signaled interest in vehicles like exchange-traded funds and stakes in high-tech companies, rather than holding tokens directly.
Plans could see the national crypto reserve fund grow to between $500 million and $1 billion by early 2026, primarily through indirect holdings rather than outright token ownership.

Why Brevan Howard Digital would fit the profile
Brevan Howard Digital is the crypto arm of the London-founded macro hedge fund Brevan Howard. Its strategies span tokens, crypto-linked equities and stablecoins.
The track record, however, comes with some turbulence. Brevan Howard Digital posted a return of +51.3% in 2024, then suffered a 30% loss in 2025.
Kazakhstan’s broader crypto build-out
Kazakhstan has been positioning itself as one of the more crypto-friendly jurisdictions in its region. The Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) sits at the heart of that push.
The AIFC functions as the country’s dedicated financial hub with its own regulatory framework for digital assets.
What this means for investors and the market
The bigger, verified story is arguably more interesting anyway. A central bank earmarking $300 to $350 million for crypto-linked instruments signals growing comfort with digital assets inside traditional reserve management.
By leaning on ETFs, equities and funds rather than direct token purchases, the NBK is taking a conservative path.
Look for any formal statement from the NBK or the Alem Crypto Fund naming specific managers, and track how the $300 to $350 million reserve allocation is actually deployed.
Also worth monitoring is whether the national reserve fund moves toward the $500 million to $1 billion range floated for early 2026.
Until an official source puts its name to the $100 million figure, it remains a reported claim rather than an established transaction. The underlying trend toward state-backed crypto exposure in Kazakhstan, however, is well documented.
