Mercado Bitcoin will begin restoring its platform Monday, Nov. 9, initially opening website access so users can view their balances, statements, assets and investments. Transfers, withdrawals and trading will remain unavailable until each service passes a final security review.
The exchange reiterated that customers would not lose assets in the security incident and said it would use its own funds to compensate for assets affected by it. The company said more than $15 million in related assets had been frozen through cooperation with Tether, Circle, Paxos, BRL1, Chainalysis and crypto community experts. It had previously put the frozen total at $12.9 million.
The Nov. 9 date marks the start of a phased return. Mercado Bitcoin did not give dates for reopening transfers, withdrawals or trading.
