As the 2026 midterm results come in, prediction markets went into Election Day pricing Democratic control of both chambers as the most likely outcome: 71% on Kalshi and 72% on Polymarket on November 1, up about six points in seven days.

A new Crypto Briefing Research report, The 2026 Midterm Risk-Asset Playbook, maps what each of the four possible outcomes could mean for AI stocks, semiconductors, Bitcoin and altcoins. Its main point: the election can change the tone in Congress, but it does not set market direction on its own.

Key findings

  • A priced-in result can still move markets. The margin of victory, turnout, positioning and post-election guidance can surprise traders even if the favourite wins.
  • Markets were under pressure before the vote. The semiconductor index fell 7.2% on October 30, with the S&P 500 down 1.8% and the Nasdaq down 2.9%. The report does not attribute these moves to the election.
  • Crypto faces a separate shock. Bitcoin closed October 31 at $77,435, down 4.2% in four days, after the $6.3 billion Binance breach.
  • Bitcoin up is not an alt season. Under the same result, megacap AI, smaller chip suppliers, Bitcoin and smaller tokens can move in different directions as spending, funding costs and market depth shift.
  • History is context, not a forecast. In one study of 20 midterms since 1946, the S&P 500 rose in every 12-month window after the vote, by 14.8% on average. Those periods do not isolate an election effect.

What to watch after the vote

The report ends with a monitoring plan that runs from the first days after the result to the next two years. In the first week, it tracks the result against the November 1 odds, chip stocks against the Nasdaq, Treasury yields, and Bitcoin against the Nasdaq. A lasting rally would need easing credit stress, resilient AI spending, stable yields, steady ETF flows and broader altcoin participation, not a party label.
