Nubank said on Friday (the 6th) that it had temporarily halted cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals on its platform. According to the institution, the move was prompted by a failure at an external data provider, whose name was not disclosed.
In a notice displayed in its app, the digital bank said that "cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals are temporarily unavailable" and that the company "is working to restore this feature as quickly as possible." The company maintains that the problem is unrelated to its own infrastructure and does not compromise customer security, adding that all assets and information remain protected. Operations will resume as soon as the service is restored.
Nubank's crypto transactions are offered through NuCripto, a section of the app that allows users to buy, sell and transfer virtual assets such as bitcoin, ethereum, solana, XRP and the USDC stablecoin. In the feature's terms and conditions, the company describes itself as an intermediary for virtual assets and states that it may rely on partners for activities such as custody, wallet management and liquidity provision, without specifying who those partners are.
Contacted for comment, Nubank had not issued a statement on its official channels about the cause of the suspension as of the publication of this article. The company also did not provide a timeline for restoring the service.
