Pudgy Penguins is drawing renewed attention in the cryptocurrency market as its ecosystem expands beyond digital collectibles into physical merchandise, trading cards and community-built tools.
Pudgy Penguins' native token, PENGU, ranked as the second-most-trending cryptocurrency on CoinGecko this week. The token traded near $0.0067 on November 6, with a market capitalization of approximately $416 million. Its 24-hour trading volume exceeded $100 million, even as its price declined by roughly 5% to 7%.
The activity comes as the project develops a broader consumer brand around its penguin characters. Rather than relying solely on NFT ownership and speculative interest, Pudgy Penguins is building connections between digital collectibles, physical products and online communities.
Pudgy Penguins builds its ecosystem beyond NFTs
Pudgy Penguins has increasingly focused on bringing its intellectual property into everyday consumer products.
In October, the project expanded its collaboration with LINE FRIENDS through a limited-edition collection featuring plush toys, blind boxes, figurines and accessories. The products appeared at flagship stores in Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.
The project also partnered with Kung Fu Tea across approximately 330 US locations. The collaboration introduced themed drinks, collectible blind boxes and Pudgy trading cards.
These partnerships give the brand exposure outside traditional cryptocurrency audiences. Its products have also appeared through major retailers, including Walmart, Target and Walgreens.
The strategy matters because NFT projects have faced the challenge of maintaining interest beyond initial collection launches. Physical products and licensing deals offer another way to keep a community engaged, although their commercial success does not automatically translate into demand for the PENGU token.
New tools give the community more ways to participate
The ecosystem is also developing through independent community tools.
PudgyTools provides information about licensed NFT listings, ecosystem developments and market activity. PickTheTCG offers a price guide covering Pudgy Vibes trading cards, including different sets, card variants and grades.
Pudgy Studio has also introduced AI-powered updates with additional meme and graphic templates.
Meanwhile, the project launched The Huddle, a central community platform where holders and fans can create profiles, connect with other members and follow ecosystem developments.
These additions give collectors and community members more reasons to remain involved between NFT purchases and product launches. They also show how third-party developers and creators are contributing to the wider Pudgy Penguins ecosystem.
PENGU faces selling pressure despite strong trading activity
Despite the growing ecosystem, PENGU's market performance remains volatile.
The token was trading around $0.0067 on November 6, with a market capitalization of roughly $416 million to $422 million across different intraday market snapshots. Trading volume exceeded $100 million in one reading, indicating continued market activity despite the price decline.
PENGU also remains significantly below its December 2024 all-time high. PENGU traded near $0.06845, leaving the token more than 90% below its record level.
Token supply is another factor investors are watching. The current and future team and company allocations continue to vest over time. According to DefiLlama's unlock tracker, there was no new large cliff unlock scheduled as of November 6, but ongoing weekly distributions from team and company allocations remain relevant to circulating supply.
This means investors need to distinguish between short-term trading interest and the longer-term effects of token distribution.
Can Pudgy Penguins turn brand recognition into lasting demand?
Pudgy Penguins is attempting to build something that extends beyond the usual NFT lifecycle. Its merchandise partnerships, trading cards, community platform and independent tools provide several ways for people to interact with the brand without necessarily buying an NFT.
The project has also faced strategic challenges. Igloo, the company behind Pudgy Penguins, recently announced that its Abstract Layer 2 network would shut down in December, with resources being redirected toward the core Pudgy Penguins ecosystem. Altcoin Buzz previously covered the decision in its report on Abstract's planned shutdown.
For PENGU, the key question is whether the expanding consumer ecosystem can create sustained interest in the token itself. Strong brand visibility and trading volume are encouraging signs, but they do not guarantee token-price growth.
For now, Pudgy Penguins is showing that an NFT brand can continue developing through merchandise, community participation and new digital tools, even while its token faces a volatile market.
