The founder of 币安, 赵长鹏, said cryptocurrency adoption may take five to 10 years to reach 20%, laying out a gradual timeline for a market he described as growing in stages.

He said the next 60% to 80% of adoption could take one or two decades, while the final 20% may take much longer. In his view, skepticism is strongest early on, adoption speeds up after reaching 20%, then slows again beyond 80%.

Retail payments and other everyday uses still lack innovation, 赵长鹏 said. Many projects remain at an early stage and may need another year or two to develop. Meanwhile, institutional activity involving exchange-traded funds, tokenized stocks and stablecoins is growing.

He said government attitudes toward crypto have shifted over the past two years, with the United States moving toward a more favorable stance and other countries following. He also pointed to slow financial-system upgrades, institutional inertia and friction when banks connect directly to blockchains.

The sector’s focus has shifted from Bitcoin (BTC) to initial coin offerings and meme coins, and more recently to institutional adoption, he said. 赵长鹏 said he remains optimistic about the sector and is willing to fund developers.
