Scroll has proposed converting its Ethereum Layer 2 network into a permissioned system for privacy-focused artificial intelligence applications and moving its SCR token to Ethereum mainnet.

The proposal was posted to Scroll’s governance forum on Nov. 3. It would change the network from a permissionless, general-purpose Layer 2 into a dedicated network. Scroll said it plans to center future network demand on AI products Compass, CENO and USX.

Scroll said demand for a general-purpose network has been difficult to sustain while its underlying infrastructure still requires maintenance. The network transition and token migration remain proposed, not completed.

The plan says SCR’s supply and overall token economics would remain unchanged after the proposed move to Ethereum mainnet.
