Tether holds approximately 150,000 Bitcoin (BTC) worth $11.5 billion, according to CEO Paolo Ardoino, a figure that would place the privately held stablecoin issuer among the largest corporate Bitcoin holders globally.
The reported holdings exceed those of every publicly listed company on BitcoinTreasuries’ ranking except Strategy, which holds 849,327 BTC. Strategy’s position is approximately 5.7 times larger than Tether’s reported Bitcoin reserve.
Because Tether is privately held, it does not appear in the public-company ranking. Ardoino’s disclosure nevertheless provides an indication of the scale of the company’s Bitcoin exposure, placing its reported holdings ahead of the other public companies included on the list.
Tether’s Bitcoin Holdings Exceed Reported USDT Reserves
The approximately 150,000 BTC figure is roughly 50,000 BTC higher than Tether’s reported Bitcoin reserve holdings backing USDT, its dollar-pegged stablecoin. The difference raises questions about how the company's total Bitcoin position is allocated across its operations and investments.
Separate proprietary investments could account for the gap between the two figures. However, Ardoino did not clarify the difference or confirm that Tether had made a new Bitcoin purchase, according to CoinDesk.
The distinction is important because the reported total should not automatically be interpreted as a newly acquired reserve position. The available information does not establish the specific composition of the additional Bitcoin holdings or when they were accumulated.
Tether Allocates Part of Its Operating Profits to Bitcoin
Tether has a stated policy of allocating up to 15% of its net realized operating profits to Bitcoin purchases. The policy links part of the company's operating earnings to its Bitcoin acquisition strategy, although the allocation is capped at that percentage.
The reported holdings of approximately 150,000 BTC, valued at $11.5 billion, would put Tether behind Strategy but ahead of every other public company on BitcoinTreasuries’ list. Strategy's 849,327 BTC remains substantially larger, while Tether's private-company status keeps it outside the ranking.
Ardoino's disclosure was reported by Coin Bureau, with CoinDesk cited for the clarification that the CEO had not confirmed a new purchase or explained the difference between Tether's total holdings and its reported USDT reserve holdings.
