Ukraine’s central bank is opposing a pending bill to legalize and regulate cryptocurrency, asking lawmakers to revise provisions it says could threaten monetary sovereignty and create risks of monopoly and corruption before a final vote.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) warned that offshore tokens functioning as electronic money could let issuers avoid rules that apply to Ukrainian assets. The bank said that could threaten the country’s monetary sovereignty.
The NBU also objected to a provision that would let the securities regulator decide how many crypto trading platforms may operate. The bank warned that the arrangement could lead to monopolies and corruption.
