Uniswap built its reputation on letting anyone swap anything. Now it has a pool where not everyone gets in.

GromaCorp has launched GromaCoin (GRO), the first permissioned asset to run on Uniswap’s automated market maker. The token trades in a GRO/USDC pool on Uniswap v4. Verified investors can buy, sell, issue and redeem it at net asset value, all onchain.

What GromaCoin actually is

GromaCorp announced the launch on November 5, 2026. GRO is an ERC-3643 security token issued on Base, the blockchain network.

ERC-3643 is a token standard with compliance built into the token itself. KYC and investor eligibility rules are embedded at the token level, so transfers to unapproved wallets can be blocked.

Each token represents fractional ownership of the Groma Real Estate Trust. That is a US-regulated real estate investment trust, or REIT, focused on multifamily residential properties. The portfolio sits primarily in Greater Boston and Providence.

Some numbers on the underlying trust:

  • Total asset value: nearing $95 million
  • Net asset value per GromaCoin: $1.07
  • Portfolio size: 125 to over 150 income-producing properties
  • Dividend yield: quarterly dividends, with a current yield around 3.74%

How the permissioned pool works

Uniswap announced the Permissioned Pools framework on July 23, 2026. It lets asset issuers run managed allowlists and execute compliance checks directly onchain. Wallets that have not cleared verification cannot trade in the pool.

GromaCoin is the first asset to use this setup. Accessibility is limited to accredited investors under the compliance measures in place.

Investors can mint new GRO or redeem existing GRO at net asset value, the per-token worth of the trust’s holdings. That keeps the onchain price anchored to the value of the real estate.

Plugging into DeFi lending

Groma has partnered with Birch Hill and Morpho to let holders borrow USDC using GRO as collateral. Supply caps on that lending setup start at $5 million.

An investor can acquire GRO, collect rental-driven dividends, and borrow stablecoins against the position without selling.

What this means

For investors, the appeal is a regulated property exposure that behaves like a DeFi asset. A trust with assets nearing $95 million and a yield around 3.74% is a modest, income-focused product. The benefit is in flexibility: onchain trading, redemption at NAV and the option to borrow against holdings.

Access is restricted to verified, accredited investors, which naturally caps the pool’s potential depth. The underlying value still rests on multifamily properties in two metro areas, with all the usual real estate risks attached.

The lending side bears watching too. The $5 million starting supply cap with Birch Hill and Morpho suggests a cautious rollout.
