UPay will add on-chain risk screening through a partnership with WIDTH, a compliance and risk technology provider. Under the agreement, announced on 6 November, the digital asset payment platform will use WIDTH’s DART to screen wallet addresses and transactions and give reviewers more detail on what triggered a risk flag.

Digital asset payments are bringing on-chain funds into everyday spending, which can make risk reviews more complex. Reviewers may need to check who the customer is, which wallet addresses were involved and how the funds moved.

DART’s wallet address risk screening (KYA) can identify links between an address and high-risk entities. Its transaction risk screening (KYT) examines where funds came from and where they went. This allows reviewers to trace each result back to the screening criteria and transaction records behind it.

“Our focus is on making risk findings useful to the people reviewing them,” said Chionh Chye Kit, Co-Founder and CEO of WIDTH. “Scores, matched rules and transaction paths help explain why an address or transaction needs attention.”

DART will supplement UPay’s own due diligence and reviews

UPay will use the screening results to support manual reviews and follow-up under its own risk policies.

“Our aim is to give reviewers more than a risk flag,” said Owen Yang, CEO of UPay. “We want them to understand what triggered it and see the transaction history behind it, so they can decide what needs further investigation.”

Screening requirements can vary by product, how funds move and where a service is offered. UPay and WIDTH will agree which payment processes DART will cover and how the findings will feed into reviews. The scope will depend on supported assets, blockchain networks and business arrangements, with both companies evaluating DART’s use based on feedback.

Following the partnership, DART’s findings will supplement UPay’s own customer due diligence and independent review. However, UPay remains responsible for its own business decisions and for meeting applicable regulatory obligations.

Founded in 2023, UPay is a financial technology company that offers digital wallets, payment cards, OTC services, crypto payments, cross-border settlement, remittance and enterprise APIs.
