- Traders and economists forecast 65K new non-farm payrolls (NFP) and an unchanged 4.2% unemployment rate.
- A macro data miss shifts odds to aggressive Fed rate cuts, causing rapid reshuffling across asset classes.
- This raises questions about whether tonight’s jobs report could trigger a Bitcoin, gold, and dollar reversal.
The US October non-farm payrolls (NFP) report is projected to add 65,000 new jobs on Friday, November 6, 2026, while the unemployment rate is forecast to remain unchanged at 4.2%.
Historically, a significant macro data miss typically changes expectations toward aggressive Federal Reserve rate cuts, causing rapid reshuffling across financial markets, including Bitcoin (BTC), gold, and the US dollar.
US October NFP 65K Forecast vs September’s 29K: How Weak Is the Jobs Market?
According to sources, consensus expects US NFP to rise by a median 65,000 in October, up from September’s gain of 29,000, while the unemployment rate is forecast to remain unchanged at 4.2%. The September number fell short of the estimated 90-94,000 and was accompanied by downward revisions of approximately 60,000 for July and August.
Meanwhile, the consensus is higher than the trailing 12-month average of around 41,000 and the monthly average through the year of around 50,000-68,000. It is much lower than the 100,000-200,000 monthly gains seen in the previous post-pandemic years. Estimates range from about 35,000 to 125,000, reflecting some uncertainty regarding seasonal factors and recent private estimates, including the ADP’s +86,000.
Has Declining US Labour Supply Reduced the Number of Jobs Needed to Keep Unemployment Stable?
Slower population growth, an aging workforce, fewer immigrants, and a labor-force participation rate, hovering at about 61.8%, have dramatically reduced the “break-even” rate of job growth needed to keep the unemployment rate stable.
The estimate of break-even employment has fallen from more than 150,000 or even higher in previous years to below 10,000 to about 50,000-87,000 per month. Sources claim that the economy requires a growth of about 40,000 jobs per month to match the increase in the working-age population. The low-hire, low-fire balance has maintained an unemployment rate of 4.1-4.2% despite soft headline payrolls.
How Wages and Payroll Revisions Could Change the Fed’s December Rate Decision
Markets are currently pricing a 69.1% chance for a 25 basis point increase in December, with the odds in the mid-60s to low-70s in recent days. Average hourly earnings are expected to rise 0.3% MoM in October, following a weak 0.1% increase in September, and down to 2.9% YoY from 3.0%, which could be the first reading below 3% since mid-2021.
That said, a hotter report or revisions could bolster labor-market strength, while upward revisions could raise the December rate hike odds. Conversely, another soft wage result and further downward revisions may ease the pressure for a wage increase, indicating less inflation pressure from the labor market.

Does Bitcoin Follow the Nasdaq, Treasury Yields or Gold Most Closely After the US NFP Report?
Bitcoin’s response to the US NFP data release is more driven by market conditions, but Treasury yields and the US dollar often have greater influence immediately after the announcement. Stronger-than-expected jobs or wage growth can push yields and the dollar higher, putting pressure on BTC.
Meanwhile, softer data could bolster Bitcoin by easing rate expectations. However, Bitcoin’s relationship with gold has recently grown stronger, while its connection with the Nasdaq remains volatile, meaning that overall market sentiment is also crucial.
Could Weak US NFP Data Actually Turn Bearish for Bitcoin?
A weak NFP report could turn the Bitcoin market bearish if it is viewed as a sign of broader economic deterioration, and not just a sign of easier monetary policy. While softer employment data may ease Treasury yields and support expectations of Fed rate cuts, a significant slowdown accompanied by rising unemployment could trigger recession fears.
In that scenario, the risk-off sentiment could take over and drag down Bitcoin, stocks, and other risk assets even as expectations for monetary easing rise. Markets will closely assess payroll growth, unemployment, wages, and previous-month revisions to determine the broader economic outlook.
