Reports indicate that Crusoe struggled to secure customers for the proposed facility. Google was among the potential buyers it had approached, but concerns over project costs and construction timelines complicated negotiations.
Crusoe also outlined a longer-term plan involving carbon capture. Google said, “It will be built alongside Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital. These partnerships will be important as the company scales power supply for one of its largest planned AI facilities.”
The transaction highlights a broader trend among major technology companies. Hyperscalers increasingly want direct ownership of critical data-centre assets instead of relying entirely on third-party developers to build and operate them.
