LayerZero and 21X AG completed a monthlong pilot for tokenized U.S. stocks on a private blockchain instance, testing whether an order book can match and settle trades in a single transaction.

The test ran on a private, permissioned version of Zero, LayerZero’s Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchain. It could match up to 10,000 orders per second. Matching and settlement took place in one transaction, without offchain order matching. Institutions controlled who could join the network and what data participants could see, while the deployment remained compatible with a broader multichain ecosystem.

LayerZero introduced Zero in February 2026 alongside Citadel Securities, DTCC, ARK Invest and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).

21X AG operates trading and settlement for tokenized securities under the European Union’s distributed ledger technology (DLT) Pilot Regime. It holds a license for a DLT trading and settlement system (DLT TSS) under the supervision of the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

As of May 31, 2025, the EU’s two operating DLT venues, 21X and CSD Prague, had no live connections to conventional securities and payment infrastructure; neither had access to central bank money settlement.
