Mercado Bitcoin pledged to cover all customer losses after a security incident compromised part of its infrastructure on 2 November 2026.

The Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange suspended its platform to contain unauthorised access and protect customer assets during security checks.

“No customer will bear this loss,” said Mercado Bitcoin in its official customer-protection statement.

The company activated its governance protocols, notified relevant authorities and maintained the suspension while completing security checks.

Mercado Bitcoin enlisted Tether, Circle, BRL1, Paxos and Chainalysis to support its investigation and asset recovery efforts.

Customer assets remain recorded in their respective accounts, with the company promising a secure platform reopening.

The exchange also committed to publishing regular updates until services return to normal, drawing on its 13-year operating history.

Mercado Bitcoin's reopening remains dependent on completing security checks and restoring safe customer access.
